Hi Rosa. Gald you liked this longer view. The nine miles here was quite unintended. We had hoped to get to Sandsend but never quite got as far as that but we returned to our car at Runswick Bay via a very circulars x-railway line path which was further than we expected. Our normal walks are much like yours 3-6 miles.

Hi Dave, nice to see you here. The village today is rather 'arty' with what seems to be fairly modern houses (less than 100year old certainly.) It has a reputation for being filled almost entirely by holiday homes and artist so maybe no real ambiance of old timers perhaps. Maybe this tells the story why:

"The original fishing village was almost completely destroyed by a landslide in 1682. Remarkably, there were no fatalities, as the village was alerted by two mourners at a wake. The village was rebuilt, slightly further to the south, perched on the side of cliffs." Wiki

All that being said, it is still quite charming with a nice cafe near the lifeboat station that you can still see on here.

Thanks Judite, for this. Yes, a more distant view shows us things we cannot see close up. A great big beach for a small community here and it was full of sand-flies as we walked across. - As said to Rosa above, the length of our hike was almost unintentional but we managed it OK.

A great view of Runswick Bay Herb I have not got this shot will have to put that right . Stayed in the Cliffemount Hotel a couple of times.you had a long walk.

Hi Toz, glad this all brought back memories for you. We had an idea that we once stayed in that hotel too, but it might have been the Victoria at Robin Hood Bay as well :) It was a great hike along the cliff top. We got as far as Goldsborough before turning back realising that Sandsend along the clifftops was further than we thought. Returned from there to Runswick via the old railway line. About 9.3miles in total according to my phone step app. -More to come yet from this walk.
