Barred owl - Strix varia

I saw this owl gliding silently to its perch, but it never looked back.

Das ist fantastisch Ronald; im ersten Moment dachte ich an einen fallenden Tannenzapfen. :-)

The uncooperative attitude of wildlife. It is an interesting shot nonetheless.

Thank you, Eunice. I saw this one and its partner, so I they are likely to pose nicely occasionally.

También entre los búhos los hay altivos, que desprecian las cámaras. Adoptó forma de piña.

Muchas gracias, José Manuel. Sí, parece un pino o una piña.

A bit uncooperative of the the owl, but it did give you an opportunity to get a superb shot of the amazing patterns and detail in its feathers! Very well captured Ronald.

Thank you very much, Keith. I think I will probably have many more chances. I see this bird and its partner almost every day (though they don't often pose nicely).

This made me smile - after I decided it is NOT a pinecone.

Thanks, Diane. This owl and another are nesting in a big pine tree near my house. Yesterday, We saw one of them bringing a small animal to feed their baby owl in a tree near our house. Haven't seen the baby yet.

This is a great photo because the back of an owl is usually not shown on any photo.
